Hello!

My name is Javi, short for Javier.

I’m an illustrator and designer living in Los Angeles! I’m beginning my career in the arts after graduating from ArtCenter College of Design in April 2023.

If you’ll indulge me, let me tell you a little bit about myself:

Several key themes continue to resonate with me throughout the years as I create art. They also guide me in most other areas of my life as well. They are:

Since I was little I’ve asked way too many questions. I was often tolerated by kind family members or teachers, and often annoyed friends and acquaintances. These kinds of questions aren’t surprising in an adult experiencing a mid-life crisis, but they are pretty surprising coming from a ten-year-old.

I learned very quickly to disguise my differences if I wanted to fit in.

Sometimes I would give anything to wonder, feel, and think less. How can any of us find true meaning and purpose when the world and the universe only seem to offer confusion and contradiction?

I am privileged to be able to ask so many questions. I I don’t live during the last Ice Age, struggling to hunt mammoths for daily sustenance, or in the midst of any of the countless wars going on in the world at any given time, attempting to find clean water to drink.

The awareness of my circumstances only seems to amplify the intensity of my questioning regarding human nature, and the possibility of hope for the future.

My search for answers and meaning continues. I sometimes struggle with despair and hopelessness. But there is always a kernel of hope that remains, a nugget of faith in the human race that cannot be eroded.

In my professional career as an illustrator and designer…

My goal is to enter the world of graphic novels in order to depict stories of struggle, resilience, survival, and triumph in the face of despair and loneliness.

I also want to create editorial illustrations for science journals, particularly those that focus on the cosmos, the environment, and human anthropology, psychology, and history.

Lastly, illustrations for book covers, jackets, and interior pages have long been an arena I have dreamt of entering since I was small spending afternoons with my father in bookstores, sifting through piles of books.

It’s my sincere hope you find joy, hope, and humanity in the work I have collected here. Thank you for your time!
